Top Ten Tuesday (1)

top ten tuesday 14 Comments 20th September, 2011

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We’d love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Top Ten Books I Feel As Though
Everyone Has Read But Me
  1. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl – I don’t know, I guess maybe the covers turned me off at first, but I’ve been hearing awesome things about this series, so I’ve bought the first two. Hopefully I’ll actually read them soon.
  2. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick – I used to not want to read fiction that had angels, I was afraid they would push religion on me, but so far with other books I haven’t really experienced that, so I’ll give this series a try soon!
  3. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – I know I’ve said it many times in comments on IMMs, but I’ll say it here too. A few years ago I read a ton of vampire books, and then just burnt out on them. I think I’m getting close though to being able to read vampire viction again, and this is one of the first ones I hope to get to!
  4. The Dark Divine by Bree Despain – I haven’t gotten to this one before because of the cover and the title, kind of threw me for a loop. But I read the summary and it sounded interesting so I bought it.
  5. Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare – This came out before I hit my stride with period books/movies/TV shows. Right now I’m loving any kind of period piece though so I’ll definitely try to fit this in before the sequel comes out.
  6. Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles – I’m hearing such awesome things from people that I really think I might decide to try this, although the summary initially put me off because I usually am not drawn to gang fiction. Eh, this may still be a while off in terms of making the decision to read.
  7. Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins – If I remember correctly the main protagonist is only 12 years old? I like reading about girls that are at least old for romantic relationships. I may get around to this someday, but then again, maybe not.
  8. The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson – I didn’t really know much about this book before blogging, but I do plan on getting to it eventually.
  9. Paper Towns by John Green – I know, GASP-worthy, right? For the longest time I just wasn’t interested in contemporary. And even though I am now somewhat interested, this one still doesn’t grab me. Who knows though, maybe that will change at some point.
  10. The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima – I know her other trilogy didn’t appeal to me, though I don’t remember why. A coworker is at some point going to let me borrow those books. But I recently bought The Demon King at a bargain price, and since there’s been a lot of love going around for this series with the third book’s release I thought I’d give it a try. It’s fantasy so it’s right up my ally, don’t know why I haven’t gotten to it before.
So that’s my list. The ones I own are in blue, if you’ve read those let me know which you think I should get to first!

Sophie is 16 in the books. It’s actually a really light and fluffy read if that makes any sense.

The dark devine sounds interesting. I actually have the second and not the first.

The adoration of jenna fox was ok in my opinion.

I leave my feelings for VA out of this comment. 🙂

BC is ok it just takes forever to get started beause of that I kind of put off the second one.

  2. Kathy Ann Coleman

I have Hush Hush on my list but I’m wary of reading that after reading Fallen.

Paper Towns is on my list and I’m dying to read it.

Also, I highly recommend the Perfect Chemistry series and I liked Vampire Academy, too.

  3. Alison Can Read

I love Beautiful Creatures. It’s slower than a lot of other paranormals and longer too, but worth it if you keep going. I enjoyed The Dark Divine. It was very confusing at first – and frustrating – but a page-turner at the end. I thought the sequel was better than the first book.

  4. Jessica Spotswood

I haven’t read Beautiful Creatures or Clockwork Angel or Hex Hall either!

I really loved Jenna Fox; I just bought the sequel. And I’m a fan of the Vampire Academy and Perfect Chemistry books, too.

  5. Book Crook Liza

It’s funny, because I felt the EXACT same way about angel books! I didn’t care much for Fallen, but I liked Hush, Hush a lot! I just finished the Vampire Academy series and I loved it! Perfect Chemistry is one of those books I would have never picked up had it not been for the reviews I saw from other bloggers and I ended up liking it a lot. I haven’t read any of the other books you’ve mentioned either!

    My Top 10 Tuesday!

  6. Jan von Harz

I am currently listening to The Demon King series and really enjoying it. I also have some of the same books on my list and could have added a couple of your books to my list too.

  7. Christy @TheReaderBee

There are a few books on your list that I haven’t read as well! I really want to read The Beautiful Creatures series, as well as the Perfect Chemistry series. I am really curious about both of them!

Hex Hall is awesome! It seems like the main character is older than that, I don’t remember the exact age though. Definitely teens. It’s such a good series!

From these, I’ve read: The Demon King, really different than the Heir Chronicles & I love the series, one of my favorites, so I’d recommend to read it now, Perfect Chemistry was good, The Dark Divine & Hex Hall were really good (I don’t remember how old she was, but definitely 15 or 16, ’cause there was romance, believe me) & I didn’t like Hush Hush, so I can’t really recommend it! I also read Beautiful Creatures & I loved it!

  9. Hanna

I know exactly what you mean about burning out on vampire fiction. I don’t even want to THINK about reading them for the considerable future!

The only one I’ve read from your list is Jenna Fox, so I guess we’re both behind the times.

I keep meaning to get round to Clockwork Angel and Hex Hall – they’re both on my TBR, but I just haven’t summoned the inclination yet.
