Friday Follow (20) & Book Blogger Hop (18)

book blogger hop, follow friday 26 Comments 24th June, 2011

Follow my book blog Friday is a weekly meme where you go around and meet other bloggers and follow each other, hosted by Parajunkee’s View. This weeks question is:

Q: “In light of the Summer Solstice. Also known as Midsummer…let’s talk about fairies. What is your favorite fairy tale or story that revolves around the fae?”

That’s a tough one, I’ve read a few that I absolutely love. But if I had to choose just one, it’d probably be Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier. It’s about 5 sisters who go off to another realm during the night for dancing in the otherworld, and one of the sisters meets a night person (vampire). Another of the sisters has a companion toad who is more than he seems. It’s loosely based on the Brother Grimm’s story of The Twelve Dancing Princesses. I just love this book. Jena is one of my favorite protagonists ever.

I also love Deerskin by Robin McKinley, based on an old French fairytale Donkeyskin. Lissla Lissar suffers greatly throughout the book, but in the end gets her happy ending. This is one of those books I reread every year. I just love it.

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Crazy for Books, a way to find new bloggers and friends, get to know each other. This week’s question is:

Q: “When did you realize reading was your passion and a truly important part of your life?”

I’ve said before that I began my love of reading in 5th grade, but I really started appreciating it in high school. Sometimes I just needed an escape, and books provided me with new worlds to visit.

I’ve heard good things about Juliet Marillier, but I haven’t read Wildwood Dancing yet. I did read Daughter of the Forest awhile back, and I enjoyed it!

    Stopped by from Follow Friday!

I haven’t heard of this book before, but it sounds interesting.

I’m a old follower btw and I’d love if you’d follow back.

OMG! I’m totally going to have to read Juliet Marillier’s Wildwood Dancing now. And not just because the protagonists name is the same as mine (just one letter off!) but that did give it an extra five points haha.

Thanks for stopping by the book element! New Follower!

When did I first realize I loved reading? I wish I could prove a pre-natal predilection towards books but my memories don’t stretch back quite that far.

The earliest memories I can recall involved books. First having them read to me then reading them on my own the minute I had the ability.

Books have been a major part of my life ever since. My passion for the written word knowing no bounds, I started writing books on top of reading them about ten years ago.

Want to know what my favorite childhood book was? Hop on over to my blog and find out: http://www.howardsherman.net

As a kid I had books of Hans Christian Andersen and the Brother Grimm, loved them. Just visiting on FF.

I was a big reader in high school, never without a book. The funny part is that in HS I was reading adult erotica/romance and now that I am an adult out of college and everything…I’m reading YA… go figure 🙂
