- 1,000 follower giveaway! (You guys rock!)
- Giveaway of an ARC of The Secret Sisterhood of Heartbreakers + swag
- The announcement post for the Harper Imprint Challenge!
Scratch my last post, I’ve changed my mind. I have a question for you guys though, would you prefer to have this challenge in November or December? Or should I maybe wait and have it in the first month or two of 2012? Maybe have a theme of Harper 2012 debuts? Or maybe 2012 anticipated sequels?
If you guys have any comments or suggestions about what you’d like to see in this challenge let me know! If you have no idea what I’m talking about, here’s a description of the event I held in July.
Hello everyone! I just wanted to announce that I bought my own domain name today for the blog. Http://www.starryskybooks.com! I’m glad I’ve finally done this. It’s much easier to type out than the old blogspot URL.
On another note, I know I haven’t posted anything the last few days. I’ve been in a small reading/blogging funk. Been watching Japanese anime instead. I recently revised my to be read pile though, decided to make it less concrete in terms of what had to be read when so that I wouldn’t feel so pressured. I think that will help a lot. Hopefully I’ll write up a couple reviews tonight so I can get things moving again.
Yes everyone, I’m going on vacation this weekend. I leave Thursday for Portland, Oregon, and come back Tuesday night. However, I don’t have anything scheduled so there will more than likely be no posts while I’m gone. I had planned and trying to post a little, but then I dropped my laptop and the screen is completely screwed up. Since it’s still new it should be under warranty, which I’m calling about tomorrow. But I won’t be taking my laptop with me anymore! 🙁 Also, because of this huge hassle I won’t be posting anything else before I leave in two days, so I shall see you all next Wednesday!
And for something to look forward to when I get back, keep these in mind!

I started this blog on December 23, 2010. Wow, it’s six months later. When I first started blogging I was thinking six months is a long time away, I’ll probably end up stopping before that point. But here I am, still going and excited for another six months! Unfortunately, I will not be holding a giveaway in celebration of this milestone as I already have two going, plus another one coming up next week. I will share with you some stats and thoughts though.
In the last six months I have acquired about 107 books. This is not counting ebooks. Only physical books. Here’s the breakdown of those books:
- 5 for review
- 4 won in a giveaway
- 4 gifted
- 1 traded
- 93 bought
Now, of those 93 I probably would’ve bought maybe 5-10 only in the last six months without blogging. So my answer to the question of whether bloggers actually sell books is hell yes. My spending habits on books skyrocked after discovering book blogs. Last year I bought maybe less than 20 books for the whole year. We’re halfway through 2011 and I’ve already bought at least 93 books. Many of these I would’ve never even heard of without book blogs. They’ve helped me find many more books that interest me than I was able to find last year on my own.
Also, in terms of review books, I did receive many requests from authors wanting to promote their books, but I turned down way more than I accepted obviously, just because first of all that is not why I started my blog. Second of all, I’m not going to accept a request for a book that doesn’t interest me. And I won’t apologize for that. There are thousands of bloggers out there eager to accept books for review, so I have no doubts about those authors finding people to promote their book. Throughout most of the year I work full time so I don’t always have as much reading time as I’d like. What time I have I want to devote to books I want to read, not books I have to read.
Now for more stats! These are specifically blog stats:
- 38 reviews
- 156 posts including this one
12,620 overall pageviews as of right now
2,000-3,000 average monthly views.
Most looked at review: Need by Carrie Jones with 109 pageviews
First review: Glimmerglass by Jenna Black
As you all probably know, Blogger has been down for a day. I was completely lazy and just used that day to read and watch movies, so I don’t have anything prepared to post right now, but hopefully tonight I can whip a review to post and get back to regular posting with tomorrow’s IMM. So yes. Hope everyone else managed to enjoy the time off! See ya later.
So I took some pictures the other day of my bookcases, because I wanted to share with you all what I have. If you have any of your own posts about your bookcases, feel free to leave a link in the comments, I always love to see what other people have in their bookcases! On to the pictures.
Tomorrow as part of a Bewitching Blog Tour, I’ll be posting a review for Glimmer by Vivi Anna. In the meantime, here is the summary of the book as well as an author bio!
Summary from Good Reads:
Although Nina Decker’s father is one hundred percent human, her mother is not. She belongs to an ancient and rare race of people called the fae. But these fae are not those written about in fairytales, with pretty gossamer wings and fairy dust, no they are sinister, malevolent and unkind, dwelling in another realm called Nightfall. More prone to destroy than to create. Abandoned at the age of ten, to be raised by her father, Nina has never forgiven her mother for that or for ruining her father. A man of only sixty, he appears to be closer to eighty with a frail body and mind. He’s been fae-struck and is slowly fading away to nothing. This is one of the reasons why Nina has never gotten too close to any one man. She doesn’t want to seal his fate like her father’s has been.
But she can’t deny her fiery connection to Severin Saint Morgan, a sexy as hell werewolf and the alpha of the Vancouver wolf pack. He’s an Australian immigrant working at the university as an associate professor, and the publicized face of the werewolf species. He makes her blood boil with desire and makes her tremble with fear. But its only when her mother reappears with startling revelations about an upcoming war between the fae and the werewolves that Nina realizes that she may be a pawn for both sides
Once shot at while repossessing a car, Vivi decided that maybe her life needed a change. The first time she picked up a pen and put words to paper, she knew she had found her heart. Within two paragraphs, she realized she could write about getting into all sorts of trouble without suffering the consequences.
When Vivi isn’t writing, you can find her causing a ruckus at downtown bistros, flea markets, or playgrounds.
